Ruairi Coleman and Omi Remalante provide tasty artwork for a Wailing Werewolf

AbnormTop

Earlier in the week, we announced Cy Dethan as the writer of Abnorm: In the Dog House, a werewolf origin tale.

Now, feast your eyes on this morsel of tasty comic artwork from the art team of Ruairi Coleman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter) and Omi Remalante (Flash Gordon, Ninjak)

Ruairi’s storytelling and linework perfectly translates Cy’s Script into a gorgeous visual narrative, with Omi’s colour work adding so much character and depth to the page.

Here’s a little bit sneak at the team’s process for creating a comicbook page:

Step 1 – Script by Cy Dethan

2) Cut back to the exterior of the nightclub. Abnorm, very wolfish in form but still bipedal for the moment, bursts out through the door, blowing it off its hinges in the process. He still clutches the drumstick in his teeth, blind panic on his face.

CAPTION

SO I RAN FOR ME LIFE, AND NOT A MAN AMONG THEM COULD CATCH ME.

3) Angle to follow a transforming Abnorm as he bolts away from the nightclub. As he runs, his forelimbs and muzzle continue to elongate, dropping him into a loping four-legged run.

CAPTION

I HADN’T TOUCHED A DROP ALL NIGHT, BUT IT WAS A WHOLE NEW WORLD OUTSIDE. NEW SIGHTS, NEW SOUNDS – NEW SCENTS, EVEN.

CAPTION

I FOLLOWED ME NOSE HERE, YE MIGHT SAY.

4) Cut back to the present, with Abnorm’s wolfman face tight in the foreground and the “flashbackground” behind him showing him fleeing into the night in four-legged wolf form.

ABNORM

I RAN ALL NIGHT. TO BE HONEST WITH YE, I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHERE I ENDED UP.

I’M NOT THE MAN I WAS, BUT THIS PLACE… IT JUST SORTA SMELLED LIKE HOME, SOMEHOW.

Cy Dethan Tells a Tall Tail

As we’ve previously mentioned, a few of Wailing Heights‘ local residents get their own comic origins within the game, and we’ve reached out to comic writer Cy Dethan to tell one particular tail tale.

Cy had this to say:

Cy-Dethan-Scar-Agency-Photo

“Wailing Heights was a real joy to write for, not least because I got to work on the backstory to lecherous lycanthrope Abnorm. I’ve met some incredibly passionate creators in comics. The drive and enthusiasm in the people I’ve worked with – from long-term collaborator Stephen Downey to incredibly talented new friend Ruairí Coleman – is endlessly inspiring to me.”

Cy’s has lent his sharp dialogue to established properties such as Starship Troopers, and is co-creator of many original comicbooks, including the indie hit, Cancertown.

Cy has drafted a terrific tale for our womanising wolf, which is a joy to read. Check back on Thursday, where we’ll have a preview and introduction to the art team.

Zombie Showcase Part 2 – John McCrea

Comicbook maestro John McCrea (Spider-man, Batman and Hitman) designs our putrid performer Debbie Decay!

John came up with this corrosive concept for Wailing height’s second-best singer, who unfortunately loses top billing to Ada Z in the Wailing Heights’ Soulless Saloon. That’s not to say you won’t hear Debbie’s voice in Wailing Heights…

Here’s a little preview of the design:

And a sneak peek of the workings-out that goes into designing a zombie, with John’s original sketch:

Zombie Showcase Part 1 – Gary Erskine!

Comic artists extraordinaire Gary Erskine (Wolverine, Punisher, ROLLER GRRRLS) adds a bit of zing to our soulful Zombies, with a design for our zombie diva Ada Z.

As well as providing the concept and design art, the illustration will make their way into the game in poster form, hanging in Wailing Heights’ Soulless Saloon. It may even form a piece of a possession puzzle, but that’s getting into spoiler territory…

Here’s a little preview of the poster artwork!

As an added bonus, here’s a peek behind-the-creative-curtain with a look at Gary’s process sketches, working out Ada Z’s design:

The Aos Sí come to Welcome Heights

We are very happy to announce, that The Aos Sí have added Wailing Heights to their virtual touring schedule!

Aos Si

The Belfast-based band add a touch of ‘rotting green’ to their colourful sound, providing the jazzy, soulful music of Ada Z and the Zom Bs who perform nightly in Wailing Heights’ Soulless Saloon.

James Downey, singer and songwriter for the band, also produces solo tracks for hipster vampire Fangs Farnsworth, and is providing sound design for the game.

We recently spent a day in the studio with the band, and the interview below provides a little insight into the musicians and their creative process as they perform as musical monsters.
